Space · high halls and industry
Twenty metres up, and the air still arrives.
In an event hall, a hangar or a factory, the outlet hangs far above the people. Cool air has to come down calmly from that height, and in winter warm air has to be pushed down against its nature. That is what adjustable components are for.
The challenge
- Great discharge height: warm air stays under the roof.
- Cooling and heating with the same outlet, often on the same day.
- Process contaminants that must not enter the working zone.
- Workstations with different activity levels, and so a different allowable air velocity (TB 69 p. 7).
The approach
Adjustable, from above or from the side.
Peek rule of thumb
From a discharge height of about 3–3.5 m, choose an adjustable outlet, so you can direct the jet for cooling and heating.
Displacement from above
Low-turbulence downflow from 4–8 m (VA-PV) or 6–30 m (VA-K). For heating, a support jet pushes the warm air down to the floor (DS 4061 E p. 2–3; DS 4011 E p. 2–4).
Displacement at working height
At approx. 3 m or on the floor, with a damper that directs the air: the VA-ZD reaches up to approx. 20 m (DS 4059 E p. 11). For halls without chillers, the VA-ZH and VA-LH switch in jet nozzles for fast heat-up or more air movement in hot weather (DS 4203 E p. 2; DS 4202 E p. 2).
Mixing, adjustable
The DD-VG discharges horizontally for cooling and forms a narrow vertical jet for heating, up to 28 m discharge height. The DD-VL does the same without jet straightener, up to 12 m (DS 4033 E p. 2). The DD-VK tilts steplessly with a damper disc, up to 15 m with staggered outlet (DS 1256 E p. 2). The adjustable radial swirl diffuser RA-V2 works from 2.8 to 15 m (DS 4122 E p. 2).
From the side
Where ceiling outlets are not possible: nozzles with up to 50 m throw (DW-V2, DS 1235e p. 15) or the swivel jet outlet SW, with ring up to 30 m (DS 1249 E p. 3).
industry, VDI 3802
At 26 °C, 2 met and 0.9 clo, up to 0.41 m/s is allowable; at 28 °C up to 0.45 m/s. Because activity differs per workstation, Krantz recommends adjustable displacement outlets (TB 69 p. 7).
Applications according to the datasheets
- Aircraft paint booths and hangars, ice rinks and sports halls (VA-K, DS 4011 E p. 2)
- Production halls, welding shops, press shops (VA-PV, DS 4061 E p. 4, p. 8)
- Foundries, machining (VA-ZD, DS 4059 E p. 4–5)
- Print shops, laundries, textile cleaning (VA-RV · VA-RN, DS 4009 E p. 4)
- Paint lines and assembly in the automotive industry (VA-T, DS 4010 E p. 7)
- Exhibition halls (DD-VG, DS 4033 E p. 2); trade fair halls and airports (DW-V2, DS 1235e p. 2)
