There is no language cookie. The language is part of the page address: Dutch without a prefix, English under /en/. If you switch languages, you go to the address in the other language; the site remembers nothing about it.
If you work on the site yourself and log in to WordPress, WordPress also sets its own login cookies. Ordinary visitors don’t get them.
Statistics without cookies
We measure how the site is used with Matomo, which we host ourselves on our own server. Matomo is set up to use no cookies. Your IP address is shortened before anything is stored, and the data goes to no one else. What exactly we measure is in the privacy statement.
Why there is no cookie banner
Dutch law (Article 11.7a of the Telecommunications Act) only requires consent for cookies that are not needed for the service you ask for. Strictly functional cookies are exempt. So are statistics with little or no impact on your privacy, like our cookieless Matomo with a shortened IP address and no sharing. Since this site places nothing else, there is nothing to ask consent for.
Pia
Before you click “Video call with Pia”, nothing from Pia loads and Pia places nothing in your browser. After that, too, our Pia server uses no cookies. During the conversation your browser connects to Runway, the avatar service behind Pia. Runway may use its own cookies or local storage during the conversation; see Runway’s privacy policy. How the conversation works and what we keep of it is in the privacy statement.
Your browser may remember that you gave Pia access to your microphone. That is a browser setting, not a cookie of ours. You can revoke it in your browser.
No outside resources
Fonts and animation libraries are on our own server. Your browser therefore fetches nothing from Google Fonts or any other outside network that could set cookies along the way.
Deleting cookies
You can always delete or block cookies in your browser settings. The site keeps working, in English too.
